Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja believes Babar Azam “has to achieve a lot more in Test cricket”.
Azam’s form has been a major concern for the men in green as he has not been able to score runs consistently for quite some time.
Ramiz noted that the 30-year-old has done exceptionally well in limited overs cricket, but still has room to accomplish a lot of great things in Tests.
“I feel Babar has to achieve a lot more in Test cricket. He plays the white-ball format really well, has an average of 50-plus in [ODIs]… There is so much potential in Babar Azam,” he said on his YouTube channel as quoted by A Sports.
Azam recently made 64 runs at an average of 16 in Pakistan’s two-Test series against Bangladesh.
He then proceeded to feature in the three-match Test series against England, but was only picked for the first Test in Multan, where he made scores of 30 and 5.
The Lahore native’s most recent assignment was a limited overs tour of Australia, where he amassed 80 runs in three ODIs at an average of 80.
As for the three T20Is that followed, Azam accumulated 47 runs at an average of 15.66.
Pakistan are now involved in a white-ball series against Zimbabwe, which Azam was rested for.
They won the ODI leg 2-1 and currently hold a 1-0 lead in the T20I series going into the second match on December 3 in Bulawayo.
