Former Pakistan batsman Yasir Hameed has taken aim at big-hitter Fakhar Zaman, saying his tweet regarding the decision to drop Babar Azam during the England series did not come at the right time.
He noted that Zaman should not have made his disappointment public, especially since there is a “code of conduct and ethics that should be followed by the players”.
Azam only played the first Test against England, where he made scores of 30 and 5. After that, he was removed from the squad for the second and third Tests.
It is believed that Zaman’s vocal advocacy for Azam resulted in him losing his central contract and being dropped for the limited overs series against Australia and Zimbabwe.
“[The] tweet was made by someone else. Even if Fakhar gave the go ahead, the person tweeting shouldn’t have done it when you know that the team has been announced. PCB is totally right here. There is a code of conduct and ethics that should be followed by the players. PCB is the parent board of all the players, be it Babar (Azam), Fakhar or Yasir Hameed. Everything has a timing and the timing of this tweet was not right,” Hameed told PakPassion.
During their tour of Australia, Pakistan won the ODIs 2-1 but then slumped to a 3-0 defeat in the T20I series.
The men in green will now travel to Zimbabwe to play three ODIs and three T20Is from November 24 to December 5.
