Pakistan red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie said Shan Masood is a “positive captain” and wants him to keep playing with the mindset of winning matches.
Gillespie’s backing of Masood comes after the men in green were whitewashed 2-0 in their Test series against Bangladesh.
Despite playing both games in Rawalpindi, Pakistan performed at a subpar level and were outplayed by the tourists.
Masood failed to have a major impact with the bat as he amassed 105 runs, which included a top score of 57, at an average of 26.25.
With the team under immense pressure, Pakistan bounced back in their three-Test series against England as they triumphed 2-1.
In that series, Masood performed a lot better, scoring 225 runs, which included a top score of 151, at an average of 45.
Having turned their fortunes around, Gillespie wants Pakistan to build on their newfound momentum.
“Shan is a very positive captain, and we want to play to win games of cricket,” Gillespie was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Pakistan are now taking on Australia in a limited overs series, which consists of three ODIs and three T20Is.
The men in green won the ODIs 2-1, which was their first ODI series win in Australia since 2002.
After the T20Is series against Australia, Pakistan will tour Zimbabwe and play three ODIs and three T20Is from November 24 to December 5.
