Pakistan red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie said Mehran Mumtaz “is a young talented spinner” who is keen to keep learning every day.

Mumtaz has seen his stock rise as of late as he has put up a number of strong performances in domestic cricket.

Most recently, he was in action in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a 50-over tournament held in Faisalabad.

In the four games he played for the Stallions, the 21-year-old took seven wickets at an average of 22.57.

Gillespie likes what he has seen from the Rawalpindi native thus far and hopes he continues to get better in the future.

“Mehran Mumtaz is a young talented spinner. He keeps on learning every day,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Mumtaz was not part of Pakistan’s squad for their two-Test series against Bangladesh or the three-match Test series against England, which the men in green lost 2-0 and won 2-1 respectively.

Pakistan just concluded a tour of Australia that brought mixed results as they triumphed 2-1 in the ODI series, but were whitewashed 3-0 in the T20Is.

They are now facing Zimbabwe in a three-match ODI series, which is tied at 1-1 going into the third match on November 28 in Bulawayo.

Once the ODIs conclude, Pakistan and Zimbabwe will play three T20Is, with the first match scheduled to start on December 1 in Bulawayo.
