Former Pakistan fast bowler Tanvir Ahmed said Babar Azam is still a “king” to him and has his full support.

Azam recently stepped down as limited overs captain and has been struggling to score runs consistently for a few months.

Tanvir admitted that resigning from the leadership role couldn’t have been an easy decision, but praised the 30-year-old for making the right move.

He added that he wants Azam to continue representing Pakistan in all three formats until he retires and look to improve his ranking, which has fallen due to his poor performances.

“Babar Azam, you have taken a very strong decision by leaving the captaincy. I wanted you to take this decision. We want that you as a batsman play for Pakistan and score a lot of runs. You have to perform very well and improve the low ranking that has taken a hit,” he said in a video on X, formerly known as Twitter, as quoted by Sports Tak.

“My prayer is that you keep playing for Pakistan in all formats until your retirement. The reason for this is that because of you people’s homes are running, their shops have flourished, because of you they get views and earn in dollars. As long as you are in the team, they will keep getting views. If you retire, they will struggle.

“I request you that you please remain in the team for your performance, for your name and the homes of others which you are running. I support you anyway, you are a king to me.”

Azam recently featured in Pakistan’s two-Test series against Bangladesh and finished with 64 runs at an average of 16.

He fared a lot better in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a domestic 50-over competition that took place in Faisalabad.

In four games for the Stallions, he accumulated 230 runs, which included a century and a fifty, at an average of 76.66.

Azam then took part in the first Test against England and made scores of 30 and 5.

Following this, he was not included in the squad for the second Test, which Pakistan won by 152 runs, or the third Test, which kicked off on October 24 in Rawalpindi.
