Former Pakistan chief selector Azhar Khan believes wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan is the best person to replace Babar Azam as white-ball captain.
Azam resigned from the role at the beginning of October and speculation is rife as to who will be named his successor.
Rizwan has been one of Pakistan’s top performers and has captaincy experience, especially at the domestic level where he leads teams like the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
“Mohammad Rizwan has always ranked among the top four Pakistani players, who have always looked to perform,” Azhar told Samaa TV.
Rizwan recently represented Pakistan in their two-Test series against Bangladesh and scored 294 runs, which included a career-best 171 not out, at an average of 98.
He then captained the Markhors in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a domestic 50-over competition that took place in Faisalabad.
In five games, the 32-year-old from Peshawar amassed 149 runs, which included a top score of 51, at an average of 29.80.
He is now involved in Pakistan’s three-match Test series against England and has made 74 runs at an average of 18.50.
The third third Test started on October 24 in Rawalpindi.
