Pakistan batsman Irfan Khan has made quite a name for himself as a big-hitter and a top-tier fielder, but he believes Shadab Khan is the best fielder in the country.
Irfan noted that the 26-year-old from Mianwali is his “fielding idol” as he constantly has an impact.
The 21-year-old has garnered significant attention for being a dynamo in the field, but remained modest by reiterating that he doesn’t see himself as the number one fielder in Pakistan.
“I have always tried to field well. I enjoy my fielding. I won’t say I am the best fielder in Pakistan, I think Shadab Bhai is the best and he’s my fielding idol as well,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Irfan recently played in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a 50-over tournament held in Faisalabad.
In four matches for the Lions, he amassed 155 runs, which included a career-best knock of 100 not out, at an average of 51.66.
He is now in action in the President’s Cup Grade-I (1-Day) competition and has made 88 runs in three games for State Bank of Pakistan, which includes a top score of 56, at an average of 44.
Irfan and Shadab were not picked for Pakistan’s recent two-Test series against Bangladesh, which they lost 2-0.
The men in green are now facing England in a three-match Test series and find themselves trailing 1-0 after losing the first Test in Multan by an innings and 47 runs.
The second Test will get underway on October 15 in Multan.
