Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has taken a dig at wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan, saying he failed to score runs when it matters most.
Rizwan has been one of Pakistan’s most consistent run-scorers over the past couple of years and has become the country’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman in all three formats.
Recently, he made 294 runs in two Tests against Bangladesh, which included a career-best knock of 171 not out, at an average of 98.
He then proceeded to captain the Markhors in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a 50-over tournament held in Faisalabad.
In the five matches he played, he amassed 149 runs, which included a top score of 51, at an average of 29.80.
Despite how good the 32-year-old has been for the Pakistan team, Kaneria still remains unconvinced about his ability to score runs in big matches.
“He (Rizwan) doesn’t score runs when it matters, that’s the only problem,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Rizwan is currently involved in Pakistan’s three-match Test series against England and made 0 and 10 in the first Test in Multan, which the men in green lost by an innings and 47 runs.
The second Test will get underway on October 15 in Multan.
