Former Pakistan head coach Misbah-ul-Haq believes the national team need a big-hitter like Abdul Samad in the lower middle order.

Samad has become an increasingly talked about player after showcasing his power-hitting capabilities at the domestic level recently.

In the recent Champions One-Day Cup, which was a domestic 50-over competition that was held in Faisalabad, he made 145 runs in six matches for the Markhors, which included a top score of 62, at an average of 24.16.

Misbah, who was the Markhors’ mentor, got to witness the 26-year-old in action firsthand and was highly impressed with what he saw.

“Pakistan needs a batter like Abdul Samad in the later middle order who can bat against spin really well,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Samad is now playing for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited in the President’s Cup Grade-I (1-Day) tournament and has struck 92 runs in four games at an average of 23.

The Pakistan team recently took on Bangladesh in a two-Test series and were whitewashed 2-0.

They are now involved in a three-match Test series against England and find themselves trailing 1-0 after losing the first Test in Multan by an innings and 47 runs.

The second Test will start on October 15 in Multan.
