Pakistan power-hitter Iftikhar Ahmed said he cannot show his potential when batting at number six or seven.
He noted that his “natural position” is at number four, which is where he would prefer to bat since it gives him time to build his innings and score big runs.
Having failed to make runs regularly while batting in the lower middle order for Pakistan, the 34-year-old from Peshawar would like the opportunity to get promoted up the order to show what he is really capable of.
“My natural position is number 4. I play at this spot in domestic cricket and my performances are good while playing in the middle order. When I play for Pakistan, I mostly play at number 6 or 7, which then becomes a little difficult for me to play to the best of my potential,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Iftikhar was not part of Pakistan’s squad for the two-Test series against Bangladesh, which the men in green lost 2-0.
He did, however, feature in the Champions One-Day Cup, which was a domestic 50-over competition that took place in Faisalabad.
In six games for the Markhors, he amassed 193 runs, which included two fifties, at an average of 38.60.
The Pakistan team are now involved in a three-Test series against England, which started on October 7 in Multan.
