Former Pakistan left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Irfan believes the coaching staff “were totally clueless” about how to train him during his playing career.
Irfan, whose height is 7 ft 1 in, used to be one of Pakistan’s go-to seamers at one point. However, he ended up losing his place in the team due to injuries and inconsistent performances.
The 42-year-old from Gaggo Mandi feels he was the victim of injustice as he had the same training regimen as players who were much shorter than him.
“There are many things that a player isn’t aware of initially but it’s only eventually that he gets to know about the injustice meted out to him. They (coaching staff) were totally clueless about how to train a player with a big height like me. I was subjected to [the] same training [regimen] as being done by a 5 [foot] or a 6 [foot] guy. So there was no set parameter of training for a guy with 7 [foot] height,” he told GTV Sports as quoted by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Pakistan team recently faced Bangladesh in a two-Test series and were beaten 2-0.
Many of the national players are now involved in the Champions One-Day Cup, which is a domestic 50-over tournament being played in Faisalabad.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a three-Test series against England, which will be held from October 7 to 28 in Multan and Rawalpindi.
