Pakistan mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed is eager to represent his country in the 2025 Champions Trophy, but admitted it is up to the national selectors to pick him in the squad.

Abrar has mainly been used in Test cricket so far, but has featured in three T20Is to date, where he has taken two wickets at an average of 23 and an economy rate of 5.75.

Since the 25-year-old has yet to make his ODI debut, there are doubts about whether he will make the cut for the Champions Trophy as the selectors could opt for more experienced players like Shadab Khan.

With a few months to go until the tournament gets underway, Abrar is determined to keep putting up good performances in order to convince the selection committee that he should be selected.

“The selection committee will decide whether I will play Champions Trophy games or not,” he was quoted as saying by A Sports.

Abrar was recently part of Pakistan’s side for the 2024 T20 World Cup, but didn’t get an opportunity to play and watched on as the men in green crashed out in the group stage.

He featured in Pakistan’s two-match Test series against Bangladesh, but only featured in the second Test, where he took one wicket at an average of 123.

Currently, he is in action for the Stallions in the Champions One-Day Cup, which is a domestic 50-over tournament going on in Faisalabad, and has claimed five wickets in four games at an average of 33.

Pakistan’s next assignment will be a three-Test series against England, which will be held from October 7 to 28 in Multan and Rawalpindi.
