Pakistan pace bowler Khurram Shahzad said he has “full confidence” in Babar Azam, even though he has struggled to score runs consistently as of late.

Azam has been Pakistan’s most reliable run-scorer in all three formats for the past few years, but currently finds himself in the midst of a rough patch.

The 29-year-old has been trying to rediscover his form, but failed to do so during the two-Test series against Bangladesh, where he was limited to 64 runs at an average of 16.

Despite this, Shahzad is optimistic that the Lahore native will start firing for the men in green very soon.

“I have full confidence in Babar Azam and our other batters to play really well,” the 24-year-old was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.

In the series against Bangladesh, Shahzad was Pakistan’s most successful bowler as he took nine wickets at an average of 24.44.

Shahzad is not involved in the ongoing Champions One-Day Cup, which is a domestic 50-over competition being held in Faisalabad.

Azam, though, is playing for the Stallions and has amassed 230 runs in four matches, which includes a century and a fifty, at an average of 76.66.

The Pakistan team will be back in action next month when they take on England in a three-Test series from October 7 to 28 in Multan and Rawalpindi.
