Pakistan red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie is confident that limited overs captain Babar Azam will start “scoring big runs soon”.

Azam has been Pakistan’s most consistent run-scorer for years, but lately, he has not been able to get the job done.

This has proven to be a major problem for the men in green as the 29-year-old is the backbone of their batting line-up.

During the recent two-Test series against Bangladesh, Azam wasn’t able to have an impact with the bat as he made 64 runs at an average of 16.

Pakistan ended up losing the series 2-0, but Gillespie stressed that Azam will be firing on all cylinders again in the near future.

“I feel confident that we’ll see Babar scoring big runs soon,” he was quoted as saying by Samaa TV.

Azam is now playing for the Stallions in the Champions One-Day Cup, which is a domestic 50-over tournament being held in Faisalabad.

In the four matches he has played, he has accumulated 230 runs, which includes a century and a fifty, at an average of 76.66.

Pakistan’s next assignment will be a three-match Test series against England, which is scheduled to be played from October 7 to 28.
