Pakistan assistant coach Azhar Mahmood has lauded left-arm seamer Mir Hamza, calling him “an excellent bowler”.

Hamza boasts a fabulous first-class record as he has taken 454 wickets in 118 matches at an average of 22.66.

Lately, the 32-year-old has become a mainstay in the Pakistan Test team and has performed well in their last couple of series.

Most recently, the Karachi native was in action in the two-Test series against Bangladesh, where he only featured in the second Test.

In that match, Hamza picked up three wickets at an average of 32.

Despite his sporadic playing time, Mahmood has been impressed with what he has seen from the veteran fast bowler.

“Mir Hamza is an excellent bowler,” he was quoted as saying by Samaa TV.

Pakistan lost 2-0 to Bangladesh and will next face England in a three-match Test series, which will be played from October 7 to 28.

Right now, though, Hamza is involved in the Champions One-Day Cup, which is a domestic 50-over tournament taking place in Faisalabad.

Playing for the Dolphins, the Karachi native has taken five wickets in three games at an average of 26.20.
