Pakistan assistant coach Azhar Mahmood has admitted that he wanted pace bowler Aamer Jamal in the Test side since he brings stability.
Jamal was initially named in the squad for the recent two-match Test series against Bangladesh, but was subsequently ruled out of the first Test due to the back injury he is currently recovering from.
He was then recalled for the second Test, but wasn’t included in the playing XI.
The 28-year-old has had an impressive start to his Test career as he was one of the bright spots for Pakistan when they faced Australia from December 2023 to January 2024.
In the three matches he played, the Mianwali native picked up 18 wickets at an average of 20.44.
He also had an impact with the bat, amassing 143 runs, which included a career-best knock of 82, at an average of 28.60.
“We wanted Aamer Jamal in our team, he provides the balance to us,” Mahmood was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Pakistan failed to impress throughout their Test series against Bangladesh and were ultimately whitewashed 2-0.
