Former cricketer Kamran Akmal believes wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan was the one saving grace for Pakistan in the first Test against Bangladesh as he saved them from losing by an innings.

Rizwan made a career-best 171 not out and 51 in the match, which the men in green lost by 10 wickets.

Akmal noted that had the 32-year-old not made a half-century in the second innings, Pakistan’s loss would have been even more humiliating.

“Had Rizwan not scored a 50 and kept the scoreboard ticking, you would have lost by an innings. This is such a humiliating defeat that it will not be forgotten. If you think poorly of others, bad things will happen to you too,” he said on his YouTube channel as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

Rizwan ended the two-Test series against Bangladesh with 294 runs at an average of 98.

Despite his outstanding performance with the bat, Pakistan could not avoid a 2-0 whitewash.
