India head coach Gautam Gambhir has admitted that legendary Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was “fearsome” as he possessed “blistering pace”.

Gambhir’s comments came when he compiled an all-time World XI that consisted of players he faced during his international career.

Akhtar is one of the most lethal seamers to ever play the sport and still holds the record for the fastest delivery ever bowled in an international match at 161.3 kph (100.2 mph).

Along with the Rawalpindi Express, Gambhir put South Africa’s Morne Morkel in the same category as he too was fast and dangerous.

“Pace bowling duties are entrusted to two fearsome quicks: Pakistan’s Shoaib Akhtar, celebrated for his blistering pace, and South Africa’s Morne Morkel, who brings experience and tactical nous to the bowling attack,” he told Sportskeeda as quoted by Geo Super.

The Pakistan team is currently involved in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh and find themselves 1-0 down after losing the first Test by 10 wickets.

The second Test will start on August 30 in Rawalpindi.
