Pakistan assistant coach Azhar Mahmood has applauded batsmen Salman Ali Agha and Saim Ayub for bowling well after being used as spinners in the first Test against Bangladesh.

The men in green had the choice to pick specialist spinner Abrar Ahmed, but opted not to do so.

Salman went wicketless in the first Test and made scores of 19 and 0, while Ayub claimed one wicket and scored 56 and 1.

Many people thought the move to exclude Abrar from the playing XI backfired as Pakistan lost the match by 10 wickets.

Nonetheless, Mahmood hailed the effort shown by Salman and Ayub, considering the difficult roles they were entrusted with.

“Our two spinners Agha and Saim also bowled well,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion.

Following a shock loss, Pakistan will be looking to bounce back in the second Test against Bangladesh, which gets underway on August 30 in Rawalpindi.
