Pakistan Test vice-captain Saud Shakeel has lavished praise on left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi, branding him as the country’s “main bowler”.
Afridi is only 24 years old but has been Pakistan’s pace spearhead in all three formats for the last couple of years.
Having gained a reputation for being an elite wicket-taker, especially with the new ball, Shakeel insisted there is no denying the quality of Afridi.
“Shaheen is our main bowler,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Afridi was recently in action in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he took five wickets in four matches at an average of 21 and an economy rate of 6.56.
He and Shakeel are now featuring in Pakistan’s two-match Test series against Bangladesh.
Afridi picked up two wickets in the first Test, which Pakistan lost by 10 wickets, while Shakeel made scores of 141 and 0.
The second Test will start on August 30 in Rawalpindi.
