Former Pakistan seamer Sarfraz Nawaz believes Babar Azam should not be considered for the limited overs captaincy anymore as he “is low in confidence”.
Azam currently leads the men in green in white-ball cricket, but there is a possibility he could be removed from the leadership role, especially after Pakistan’s dismal performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Sarfraz thinks the 29-year-old shouldn’t be anywhere near the captaincy race and play as a specialist batsman going forward.
“Babar Azam is low in confidence and should not be considered for the job,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
In the T20 World Cup, Azam was Pakistan’s highest run-scorer with 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.
The men in green lost to the United States of America and India before rebounding to take down Canada and Ireland.
Despite ending the group stage on a high, Pakistan were unable to progress to the Super Eights.
