Islamabad United head coach Mike Hesson said Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan is a special player as he can take the attack to both spinners and pace bowlers.

Azam is among the top power-hitters in Pakistan right now, but hasn’t been able to showcase his big-hitting talent at the international level as he has consistently been dismissed for low scores.

The 25-year-old son of former Pakistan captain Moin Khan has played 14 T20Is to date and mustered 88 runs at an average of 8.80 and a strike-rate of 133.33.

His latest assignment with the men in green was the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he was dismissed for a golden duck against the United States of America, which was the only game he played.

Even though he hasn’t been a dominant force in international cricket, Hesson pointed out that Azam has consistently been a threat when playing domestic cricket and various T20 leagues.

“He can attack spin and pace,” he told PakPassion.

Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India in the T20 World Cup before bouncing back to beat Canada and Ireland.

However, those two wins went in vain as the men in green were eliminated in the group stage of the tournament.
