Pakistan seamer Hasan Ali said the Fab Four became the Fab Five due to limited overs captain Babar Azam’s brilliance with the bat.

The Fab Four consisted of India’s Virat Kohli, Australia’s Steve Smith, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and England’s Joe Root.

However, with Azam consistently performing well for Pakistan and doing the same job as the aforementioned quartet, many people felt he deserved to be part of the elite club.

Hasan agrees that the 29-year-old deserves to be recognised as one of the best cricketers in the world and hopes to see the Lahore native “get even better” in the future.

“You must have heard of the Fab Four and Fab Five. We used to hear about the Fab Four, which are these four players (Kohli, Williamson, Smith, and Root). Because of Babar Azam, it became the Fab Five, as Babar is the fifth player in the Fab Five. Babar was the one who joined them, and he has improved. And he’s the king. I still stand by my statement, and I hope he will get even better. And yes, (king krlega) king will achieve it,” he told Cricket Pakistan.

Azam recently led Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup and finished with 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.

The men in green lost to the United States of America and India before rebounding to beat Canada and Ireland.

However, those two victories went in vain as Pakistan failed to book their spot in the Super Eights.
