Pakistan spinner Shadab Khan said the critics of limited overs captain Babar Azam are putting unnecessary pressure on him.
Azam has been the target of criticism for the past few months due to his captaincy and the team’s failure to live up to expectations.
However, Shadab noted that people must stop doing this as the 29-year-old is a player the national team relies on a lot since he is the most consistent run-scorer in all three formats.
“[We] are pressurising him,” the 25-year-old Mianwali native was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Azam recently led Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup and was the team’s top run-scorer with 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.
As for Shadab, he failed to take any wickets in four games and didn’t even bowl in Pakistan’s matches against India and Canada.
The men in green began their campaign with consecutive losses to the United States of America and India before bouncing back to beat Canada and Ireland.
Despite ending the group stage with a 2-2 record, Pakistan failed to advance to the Super Eights.
