Former Pakistan fast bowler Sarfraz Nawaz said he warned Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairmen Zaka Ashraf and Mohsin Naqvi about Wahab Riaz.
Wahab had previously served as Pakistan’s chief selector before his role changed and he was one of seven selectors on the selection committee.
Sarfraz knew the 39-year-old left-arm seamer “was not capable of delivering in any capacity”, but no one listened to his warning.
“I am on record to have written letters to Zaka and Naqvi regarding Wahab’s suspected past and his lack of abilities as an administrator. Nobody paid heed to my suggestion. I knew well that Wahab was not capable of delivering in any capacity yet he was made selector, advisor and manager. On all fronts, he failed,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Wahab was removed as a selector following Pakistan’s dismal performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they were knocked out in the group stage.
