Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Abbas is keen to play for his country again, but pointed out that “selection is not in my hands and I can’t do anything about it”.
Abbas used to be one of the first-choice seamers in the Test team, but he eventually lost his spot after failing to perform consistently.
The 34-year-old from Sialkot, who last played international cricket in August 2021, now regularly represents Hampshire in the County Championship.
In the ongoing county season, he has taken 15 wickets in six matches at an average of 33.73.
“I look at my stats and I feel proud and grateful. Selection is not in my hands and I can’t do anything about it. As a human being, negativity also comes to your mind at times and I feel if the communication between the board & players gets better then our overall cricket will thrive,” Abbas told PakPassion.
The Pakistan team recently featured in the 2024 T20 World Cup and lost to the United States of America and India before rebounding to take down Canada and Ireland.
Despite triumphing in those two matches, the men in green failed to make it to the Super Eights.
