Pakistan opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq has praised limited overs captain Babar Azam for being a consistent performer in ODIs for the past seven years.
His comments come after he included Azam in his all-time Pakistan ODI XI as an opener as he couldn’t find space for the 29-year-old in the middle order.
Considering Azam averages an astounding 56.72 in ODI cricket, Imam could not exclude him from his all-time team.
“Since it was very difficult for me to set [him] in the middle order. So, I went for Babar Azam as the opener. The way he has performed in ODI cricket for the last seven years… his performances for Pakistan are very good,” the 28-year-old was quoted as saying by A Sports.
Azam recently captained Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup and scored 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.
The men in green kicked off their campaign with consecutive losses to the United States of America and India before rebounding to beat Canada and Ireland.
Despite ending the group stage on a high, Pakistan failed to advance to the Super Eights.
