Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria admitted he is surprised the pace duo of Aamer Jamal and Shahnawaz Dahani “are not getting opportunities” despite having performed in the past.
Jamal showed incredible promise when he made his Test debut in the three-match series against Australia as he took 18 wickets at an average of 20.44.
He also scored 143 runs, which included a career-best score of 82, at an average of 28.60.
Since then he has represented Pakistan in two T20Is against New Zealand, but hasn’t been picked since January 2024.
As for Dahani, he has been a force to be reckoned with in domestic cricket as he was recently the highest wicket-taker in the President’s Cup Grade-I (1-Day) tournament with 19 wickets in seven games for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited at an average of 16.47.
Despite having been a top performer at the domestic level, the 25-year-old last played international cricket in October 2022.
“There are tons of players who have been making headlines with their performances but are not getting a chance to play for the national team. Players like Aamer Jamal and Shahnawaz Dahani who performed well are not getting opportunities,” Kaneria told Sports Now as quoted by NDTV.
The Pakistan team recently featured in the 2024 T20 World Cup and began with back-to-back losses to the United States of America and India before bouncing back to take down Canada and Ireland.
Even though they won those two matches, the men in green failed to make it through to the Super Eights.
