Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has blasted the men in green for continuing to select “[a] useless team” and being too reliant on limited overs captain Babar Azam and wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan.
Azam and Rizwan have been Pakistan’s go-to run-scorer for the past few years and have repeatedly gotten the side out of trouble.
However, Kaneria wants to see other players step up too as they are in the team for a reason.
“You select [a] useless team and repeatedly depend on Babar-Rizwan, Babar-Rizwan, what is this? Till when we will tolerate these names,” the 43-year-old told Sports Now as quoted by NDTV.
Azam recently captained Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup and scored 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.
As for Rizwan, he made 110 runs in four games, which included a top score of 53 not out, at an average of 36.66 and a strike-rate of 90.90.
Pakistan started their campaign with successive losses to the United States of America and India before bouncing back to defeat Canada and Ireland.
Even though they ended the group stage on a high, they were unable to book their spot in the Super Eights.
