Why isn’t Pakistan developing him, Sarfraz Nawaz points to aggressive fast bowler who can be a match-winner

Sarfraz Nawaz asked why Pakistan isn't picking and developing pace-bowling all-rounder Aamer Jamal

Sarfraz Nawaz: “Then, in Australia, you took an all-rounder, Aamer Jamal. Why didn’t you develop him? He gave such a good performance there, and he can bowl with good speed and bat bravely. He could have been a match-winner”

Former Pakistan seamer Sarfraz Nawaz has questioned why pace-bowling all-rounder Aamer Jamal is not being picked and allowed to develop.

He noted that Jamal showed immense potential in the three-match Test series against Australia from December 2023 to January 2024, where he took 18 wickets at an average of 20.44.

Jamal also scored 143 runs, which included a career-best 82, at an average of 28.60.

After the Australia Tests, the 27-year-old from Mianwali featured in Pakistan’s T20I series against New Zealand in January 2024 and has not been picked since then.

Nawaz admitted that it is utterly bamboozling that the selectors are not giving Jamal a proper chance to prove himself, especially since he has shown he can be a “match-winner”.

“Then, in Australia, you took an all-rounder, Aamer Jamal. Why didn’t you develop him? He gave such a good performance there, and he can bowl with good speed and bat bravely. He could have been a match-winner,” he told Cricket Pakistan.

The Pakistan team recently featured in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they lost to the United States of America and India before defeating Canada and Ireland.

Despite triumphing in their last two group stage games, it didn’t save them from elimination.
