Former Pakistan batsman Yasir Hameed has thrown his support behind wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan, saying the selectors and team management should stick with him “till the end”.
Azam has been heavily criticised throughout his career for being unfit and for not scoring runs consistently.
So far, the 25-year-old has made 88 runs in 14 T20Is at an average of 8.80 and a strike-rate of 133.33.
In the 2024 T20 World Cup, he was trapped lbw for a golden duck against the United States of America, which is the only match he played.
Despite his struggles, Hameed still sees the powerful big-hitter as an asset for the men in green.
“Stick with Azam Khan till the end,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter, as quoted by PakPassion.
Pakistan lost their first two T20 World Cup matches against the United States of America and India before fighting back to beat Canada and Ireland.
Even though they won their last two group stage games, the men in green failed to advance to the Super Eights.
