Legendary England fast bowler Stuart Broad said Pakistan left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi “will always be a threat with the new ball” if he bowls at good pace and swings it.
Afridi has gained a reputation as one of the best new ball bowlers in the world since he consistently takes early wickets.
Given how effective the 24-year-old is in the first few overs in T20Is, Broad advised Pakistan to consider letting Afridi bowl three overs in the powerplay instead of limiting him to two.
“Any left-arm bowler who can swing it in at that pace will always be a threat with the new ball. I wonder if Shaheen Afridi would be better off just bowling 3 overs up front in the powerplay instead of 2,” he was quoted as saying by respected journalist Saj Sadiq on X, formerly known as Twitter.
In the 2024 T20 World Cup, Afridi took five wickets in four matches at an average of 21 and an economy rate of 6.56.
Pakistan lost their first two games to the United States of America and India before bouncing back to beat Canada and Ireland.
Even though they triumphed in those matches, it was not enough to earn them a spot in the Super Eights.
