Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad has called out limited overs captain Babar Azam for “hiding behind seven selectors”.

Currently, the selection committee is made up of seven people – Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq, white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten, team analyst Bilal Afzal and Azam himself.

With the men in green having had a string of poor performances as of late and a number of players failing to meet expectations, Shehzad noted that Azam should step up and take responsibility, but he is instead taking cover behind the national selectors.

“Babar Azam is hiding behind seven selectors,” he said on Geo News as quoted by NDTV.

In the 2024 T20 World Cup, Azam amassed 122 runs in four matches at an average of 40.66 and a strike-rate of 101.66.

Pakistan lost their first two matches against the United States of America and India before triumphing over Canada and Ireland.

Even though they won their last two group stage games, it was not enough to earn them a spot in the Super Eights.
