Former India batsman Robin Uthappa believes Ireland can beat Pakistan in their 2024 T20 World Cup clash on June 16 in Lauderhill.
Both teams have already been eliminated in the group stage of the tournament, but will look to end their respective campaigns on a high.
It should be noted that Ireland did beat Pakistan in a T20I when they played a three-match series in May 2024.
Considering how disappointing the men in green have been in the T20 World Cup, Uthappa firmly believes Ireland could score an upset win over them once again.
“Ireland can potentially cause an upset. Ireland are in the same group as India, Pakistan, Canada and USA. So, where is the upset coming from?” India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin asked Uthappa on his YouTube channel as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.
In response, Uthappa said: “Pakistan. I was waiting to give the answer when you asked the question.”
The men in green began their T20 World Cup campaign with a shock loss to the United States of America.
They then fell agonisingly short of beating India, which left them teetering on the edge of elimination.
Despite bouncing back to claim a seven-wicket win over Canada, it was not enough for the men in green as India and the United States of America advanced to the Super Eights from their group.
