Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has taken a shot at limited overs captain Babar Azam and the team management, saying they should “select players on merit”.
His comments come after the men in green have had a disappointing campaign in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup.
Pakistan began with a shock loss to the United States of America before falling to India as well.
Teetering on the brink of elimination, they managed to claim a seven-wicket win over Canada.
Considering there are quite a few players in the Pakistan team not performing up to expectations, Akmal urged Azam to make some tough choices and give opportunities to those who deserve it.
“Babar Azam and [the] team management should now come out of this ‘yaari dosti’ and select players on merit,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Pakistan’s next T20 World Cup match will be against Ireland on June 16 in Lauderhill.
