Legendary Pakistan batsman Younis Khan admitted it is imperative that limited overs captain Babar Azam “lead the team from the front”.
Azam has been doing this for years in all three formats and has repeatedly led the men in green to victory from incredibly precarious situations.
Younis knows the 29-year-old is a “top player” and “is in good form”, which is why he wants Azam to maintain his reputation as the team’s batting spearhead.
“Babar Azam is a top player and he is in good form. He must lead the team from the front,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Azam recently captained Pakistan in their five-match T20I series against New Zealand and finished with 125 runs, which included a top score of 69, at an average of 31.25 and a strike-rate of 138.88.
He then made 132 runs, which included two fifties, at an average of 44 and a strike-rate of 148.31 in the three-match T20I series against Ireland.
As for the four-match T20I series against England, he ended up making 68 runs at an average of 34 and a strike-rate of 141.66.
Azam is now leading Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup and has made scores of 44, 13 and 33 against the United States of America, India and Canada respectively.
The men in green lost their first two games before rebounding to beat Canada by seven wickets.
Their next match will be against Ireland on June 16 in Lauderhill.
