Former Pakistan head coach Misbah-ul-Haq said left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir is not very effective with the new ball, but is a good death bowler as he possesses plenty of experience and variations.

Misbah noted that the men in green should utilise Amir in the death overs as he can control the flow of runs with his slower balls bowled outside the off-stump.

Amir recently returned to international cricket in Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand and took three wickets in four games at an average of 28.66 and an economy rate of 8.32.

After this, Pakistan played three T20Is against Ireland and Amir claimed two wickets in two matches at an average of 38 and an economy rate of 9.50.

He then went wicketless in the two T20Is he played against England.

“His experience as a death bowler, how to bowl under pressure and use variations. These factors will be a crucial asset in Amir’s forte this time. He might not be that effective with the new ball, but in the death he will be crucial with his slower balls, aimed at outside the off-stump,” Misbah said on the Star Sports Press Room as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

Pakistan will now be involved in the 2024 T20 World Cup, which is being played in the West Indies and United States of America.

Pakistan’s first T20 World Cup game will be against the United States of America in Dallas on June 6.
