Pakistan all-rounder Jahandad Khan said left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi is the “number one fast bowler in the world for a reason”.

His praise for Afridi comes he played alongside the 24-year-old for the Lahore Qalandars in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Jahandad revealed he learned a lot from Afridi, including how to bowl slower balls, in-swinging yorkers and cutters properly.

“Shaheen taught me a lot when I played under his captaincy for Lahore Qalandars. He taught me technical points of slow ones, in-[swinging] yorkers and cutters. He is the number one fast bowler in the world for a reason,” the 20-year-old told Geo News.

In PSL 9, Jahandad amassed 88 runs in nine matches at an average of 22 and a strike-rate of 187.23.

He also snapped up five wickets at an average of 45.20 and an economy rate of 9.82.

Despite showing a lot of potential, he wasn’t picked for Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which ended as a 2-2 draw.

Afridi featured in that series and took eight wickets in four games at an average of 10 and an economy rate of 7.38.

He followed it up with seven wickets in three T20Is against Ireland at an average of 12.71 and an economy rate of 7.41.

Pakistan are now involved in a four-match T20I series against England, which is tied at 0-0 after the first game was washed out.

After this, they will take part in the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be played in the West Indies and United States of America from June 1 to 29.

Pakistan’s first T20 World Cup game will be against the United States of America in Dallas on June 6.
