Salman Butt: “Sometimes he plays shots which were not required at that time of the match”

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has slammed batsman Mohammad Haris for playing unnecessary shots over and over again.
He noted that this raises questions about whether the 23-year-old “is ready and mentally present in the ground”.
On top of that, Salman pointed out that it can “create doubt in the selectors’ minds”, which makes matters worse as it can lead to non-selection. This is exactly what has happened in Haris’ case as his last game for Pakistan came in September 2023.
“Sometimes he plays shots which were not required at that time of the match and this was not just restricted to T20I cricket because he also did that while playing for Pakistan A. When somebody does this time and again, you have to ask if he is ready and mentally present in the ground. These things can create doubt in the selectors’ minds,” he said on YouTube channel as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.
The Pakistan team recently drew 2-2 in a five-match T20I series against New Zealand before going on to beat Ireland 2-1 in a three-match T20I series.
They are now playing a four-match T20I series against England, which is currently tied at 0-0 after the first match was washed out.
Afterwards, Pakistan will participate in the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be played in the West Indies and United States of America from June 1 to 29.
Pakistan’s first T20 World Cup game will be against the United States of America in Dallas on June 6.
