Pakistan left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Amir said he has “lost nine years” of his international career and is now looking to make the most of his return to the national team.

Amir was banned for five years after being implicated in the 2010 spot-fixing scandal – a move he has shown immense remorse for and called a “big mistake”.

The 32-year-old was also out of the international scene from 2020 to 2024 after opting to retire and focus on playing in domestic T20 leagues.

“I have done penance for that big mistake and if you look at my career I was banned from 2010 to 2015 and took retirement from 2020 to 2024 so I have lost nine years but I accept it all as God’s will and I have moved on,” he told Pakistani journalist Hafiz Mohammad Imran on his YouTube channel as quoted by NDTV.

Amir made his international comeback in Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand and picked up three wickets in four games at an average of 28.66 and an economy rate of 8.32.

He then proceeded to feature in two T20Is against Ireland and claimed two wickets at an average of 38 and an economy rate of 9.50.

Pakistan’s next assignment will see them play four T20Is against England from May 22 to May 30.

After that, they will be in action in the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will take place in the West Indies and United States of America from June 1 to 29.

Pakistan’s first T20 World Cup game will be against the United States of America in Dallas on June 6.
