Former team director Mohammad Hafeez has hit back at former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi over comments the latter made about local coaches.
Sethi had claimed that local coaches in Pakistan make decisions based on nepotism and personal relations.
However, Hafeez refuted this, saying he has never seen it happen. He also called out Sethi for having a “slavish mindset” for believing only foreign coaches should be put in charge of the Pakistan team.
“I’m really disappointed with the statement of former chairman PCB because it is unfair to many former players. Pakistan has got legends of cricket who are admired by the rest of the world. This is a slavish mindset of PCB that only a foreign coach should be appointed. I have never seen any local coach promoting nepotism or personal recommendations,” he told Geo News.
The Pakistan team recently played a five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which ended as a 2-2 draw.
Following that, they took on Ireland in a three-match T20I series and won 2-1.
Pakistan’s next assignment will see them play four T20Is against England from May 22 to May 30.
Afterwards, they will feature in the T20 World Cup, which will take place in the West Indies and United States of America from June 1 to 29.
Pakistan’s first T20 World Cup game will be against the United States of America in Dallas on June 6.
