Pakistan big-hitter Fakhar Zaman has confirmed that the number four spot is his “fixed position” on the batting order in T20Is.
Zaman used to open the batting in the past, but has since dropped down as limited overs captain Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and more recently, Saim Ayub, have taken over the positions at the top of the order.
The 34-year-old from Mardan pointed out that there is a possibility he could be promoted to a higher spot based on certain match situations, but generally, he will be coming in at number four.
“This is my position in T20Is… But my position can change situation-wise. For example if wickets do not fall in the beginning, then I might go up. But my fixed position is number four,” he was quoted as saying by respected journalist Saj Sadiq on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Zaman recently featured in Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand and made 104 runs in two games, which included a top score of 61, at an average of 52 and a strike-rate of 133.33.
He is now involved in the three-match T20I series against Ireland and scored 20 runs in the first game, which Pakistan lost by five wickets.
However, he helped his side secure a seven-wicket win in the second T20I as he smashed 78 off 40 balls, which included six boundaries and six sixes.
Following this series, the men in green will play four T20Is against England from May 22 to May 30.
