Former Pakistan head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq has advised big-hitting wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan to improve his discipline.

Misbah’s comments come at a time when he still remains concerned about the 25-year-old’s weight and fitness levels.

Azam has regularly been criticised for being overweight during his playing career and even though he has worked hard to shed a lot of pounds, many former cricketers continue to feel he hasn’t done enough.

“He also needs to slightly improve his discipline,” Misbah was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

As one of Pakistan’s top up-and-coming power-hitters, Azam showcased his skills while playing for Islamabad United in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL).

In 12 matches, the son of former Pakistan captain Moin Khan amassed 226 runs, which included a top score of 75, at an average of 25.11 and a strike-rate of 171.21.

After PSL 9, he missed Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand due to a grade one tear in his right calf muscle.

Azam is now featuring in the three-match T20I series against Ireland and has made scores of 0 and 30 not out.

Following this, Pakistan will play four T20Is against England from May 22 to May 30.
