Pakistan powerhouse Azam Khan said it is up to the national selectors to decide whether to pick him in the national team going forward.

The wicketkeeper-batsman has featured in nine T20Is to date, but has failed to impress at all, scoring 29 runs at an average of 4.14 and a strike-rate of 85.29.

It remains to be seen if the men in green stick with Azam going forward, but regardless of what happens, the 25-year-old will keep focusing on performing well to stay in the mix.

“I don’t focus too much on the distant future; I remain focused on the present. Whether I get selected for the Pakistan team or not is up to the selectors. I am focused on my performance,” he told Geo News.

“I try to perform in a way that there is no need for any explanation. I want to be selected based on my current performance, not my past.”

Azam was recently part of the Islamabad United team that won the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL).

In the 12 games he played, he accumulated 226 runs, which included a top score of 75, at an average of 25.11 and a strike-rate of 171.21.

He missed Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand in April 2024 due to a grade one tear in his right calf muscle.

Currently, he is involved in the three-match T20I series against Ireland and made a duck in the first game, which the men in green lost by five wickets.

Following this series, Pakistan will play four T20Is against England from May 22 to May 30.
