Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja said limited overs captain Babar Azam “is one of the greats of the game” as he looks to “conquer the opposition” whenever he comes out to bat.
Azam has been Pakistan’s most reliable run-scorer for a few years and has already rewritten the history books on numerous occasions.
Recently, the 29-year-old captained the Peshawar Zalmi in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and was unstoppable as he kept on scoring runs.
Azam finished as the highest run-scorer in PSL 9 with 569 runs in 11 matches, which included a century and five fifties, at an average of 56.90 and a strike-rate of 142.60.
“Babar is one of the greats of the game. He is here to conquer the opposition,” Ramiz was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X, formerly known as Twitter.
In Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand in April 2024, Azam amassed 125 runs in five games, which included a top score of 69, at an average of 31.25 and a strike-rate of 138.88.
He is now captaining the men in green in their three-match T20I series against Ireland and scored 57 runs in the first game, which Pakistan lost by five wickets.
Following this series, Pakistan will play four T20Is against England from May 22 to May 30.
