Former Pakistan pace bowler Sikandar Bakht still thinks Babar Azam is a bad captain and is disappointed the 29-year-old hasn’t proved him wrong.
The 29-year-old currently leads the men in green in limited overs cricket, having returned to the leadership role after stepping down in all three formats in November 2023.
Having been given a second chance as captain, Azam will be under immense scrutiny, especially if the Pakistan team continues to suffer a string of poor results.
“I wanted him to prove me wrong by showing his captaincy but he didn’t,” Bakht was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Azam recently led Pakistan in their five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which ended as a 2-2 draw.
Playing against a Black Caps side that was missing many of their star players, he managed to amass 125 runs in five games, which included a top score of 69, at an average of 31.25 and a strike-rate of 138.88.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a three-match T20I series against Ireland from May 10 to 14.
After that, they will play four T20Is against England from May 22 to May 30.
