Up-and-coming Pakistan all-rounder Jahandad Khan said he looks up to and admires T20I captain Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Afridi is Pakistan’s first-choice bowler in all three formats and the leader of the pace attack despite only being 23 years old.

Having played under Afridi’s captaincy for the Lahore Qalandars in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), Jahandad acknowledged that there is so much to like about him.

“Shaheen Afridi is my favourite bowler, I look up to him. Shaheen is someone I admire the most,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Jahandad had a solid campaign in PSL 9 as he scored 88 runs in nine matches at an average of 22 and a strike-rate of 187.23.

The 20-year-old from Rawalpindi also took five wickets at an average of 45.20 and an economy rate of 9.82.

The Qalandars were the defending champions coming into PSL 9, but they failed to retain their title as they finished in last place on the points table after winning just one out of the 10 games they played.

Pakistan’s next assignment will be a five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which will be held in Rawalpindi and Lahore from April 18 to 27.
