Former Pakistan team director and interim head coach Mohammad Hafeez has brutally ripped spin-bowling all-rounder Imad Wasim apart for his lack of impact in the initial stages of the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Prior to the start of PSL 9, Imad, who recently reversed his decision to retire from international cricket, moved from the Karachi Kings to Islamabad United.
In the 12 matches he played, the 35-year-old took 12 wickets at an average of 20.91 and an economy rate of 6.60.
He also did well with the bat, scoring 126 runs, which included a top score of 59 not out, at an average of 21 and a strike-rate of 128.57.
Given that Imad was brought in by Islamabad to be an impact player, Hafeez slammed him for falling short of the mark.
“I don’t understand Imad’s impact at all. As a bowler, as a batsman, he is nowhere in the PSL. There are higher expectations from Imad,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Islamabad ended up winning PSL 9 after beating the Multan Sultans by two wickets in the final.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which will be played in Rawalpindi and Lahore from April 18 to 27.
