Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan has batted at number nine in the past and said he is ready to do it again if the team needs him to.
He noted that he “cannot say I will not do this” as his goal is to represent his country and help the men in green win matches.
Rizwan has been an opening batsman in T20Is for the past couple of years, but reiterated his commitment to batting anywhere if the management believes it will benefit the team.
“If you look at my career so far, in 26 matches, I have gone to bat at numbers 7, 8, and 9. No batsman has gone in at number 9, I have. I cannot say that I will not do this. I was ready before, and I am still ready now,” he told Cricket Pakistan.
Rizwan recently captained the Multan Sultans in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and was the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 407 runs in 12 matches, which included four fifties, at an average of 33.91 and a strike-rate of 122.22.
The Sultans made it to their fourth consecutive final, but ended up losing to Islamabad United by two wickets.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which will be played in Rawalpindi and Lahore from April 18 to 27.
