Former Pakistan team director and interim head coach Mohammad Hafeez said big-hitter Iftikhar Ahmed “can still play an important role for Pakistan for another 6-7 years.”

Iftikhar has become a key member of the T20I side as he is the men in green’s first-choice finisher. Additionally, he is also utilised as a part-time bowler.

Since the Peshawar-born batsman is only 33 years old right now, Hafeez firmly feels he has a long future with the Pakistan team as long as he keeps performing.

“Iftikhar Ahmed is just 33 years old, he can still play an important role for Pakistan for another 6-7 years,” he was quoted as saying by journalist Farid Khan on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Iftikhar was recently in action for the Multan Sultans in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and had a really strong campaign as he accumulated 259 runs in 12 matches, which included a top score of 60 not out, at an average of 64.75 and a strike-rate of 193.28.

The Sultans ended up reaching the final for the fourth year in a row, but lost to Islamabad United by two wickets.
